Began skating at 3 ½ years old on hockey skates before an on-going shoulder injury convinced him to transition to speed skating in 2014. He had played competitive hockey for 12 years in addition to speed skating.His speed skating inspiration is five time Olympic Gold medalist Eric Heiden.
