HISTORY
Since its inception in 1960, the Speed Skating Hall of Fame has honored over 90 skaters for their excellence in athletic achievement in the sport of speed skating, and more than 60 contributors for their innovative contributions to the sport and dedication to the speed skating community. Hall of Fame nominations are accepted year-round, but the deadline for a nomination to be considered for induction is January 1st of that year. Nomination Information#
“CLASSICAL ERA” Long Track: Before 1964, Short Track: Before 1988
A nominee to the Speed skating Hall of fame must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Achieved at least two (2) of the following criteria:
A. Winner of 2 National or North American Senior Class Championships;
B. National or North American Senior Class Records;
C. Olympic or World Championship medalists;
D. Olympic or World Records;
E. Olympic Teams;
F. World Teams.
“MODERN ERA” Long Track: 1964 and later, Short Track: 1988 and later
A nominee to the Speed Skating Hall of fame must meet the following minimum qualifications: Achieved at least one of the following criteria five years or more prior to nomination:
1. Member of at least four teams, achieving at least two top 15 finishes overall, or;
2. Earning one individual medal or;
3. Member of at least three teams, placing in the top 15 in one event, or;
4. Member of at least one team, earning at least one individual medal, or;
5. Member of at least two relay or pursuit teams winning two medals
6. World Record Performance at an ISU sanctioned competition
The candidacy of each nominee will be judged on the nominee’s record, ability, integrity, sportsmanship and character.

The Hall of Fame Committee will consider nominees who have made noteworthy contributions to the sport of speed skating in an amateur and non-skating capacity at the National or International level.
The candidacy of each nominee will be judged on the nominee’s record, ability, integrity, sportsmanship and character.
A nominee to the Speed Skating Hall of Fame must meet the following qualifications:
A. The nominee must have made a significant impact on the sport at the National and/or International level.
B. Has made a contribution to the sport for a period of at least fifteen (15) years.

The Hall of Fame Committee will consider removal requests submitted in full, to the best ability of the person submitting the request. If the Hall of Fame Committee supports the validity of the request, the information will be delivered to the US Speedskating Board of Directors for further consideration.
An inductee into the National Speed Skating Hall of Fame may be eligible for expulsion based on one of the following circumstances:
A. Evidence of performance enhancing substances being used, or provided to others, during the time frame of the achievements that made the individual eligible for nomination.
B. Conviction of a criminal offense under a Federal or State statute during the time frame of the achievements that made the individual eligible for nomination.
