Injury Prevention

Speed skating is a fast paced sport that is exciting and fun. As with any sport, it is important to have and learn how to maintain the proper equipment for the safety of your skater and those around them.

Short Track Equipment: Skater must have: long sleeves, long pants, gloves, neck guard, knee pads, helmet and safety glasses (preferable). Skates must be maintained and sharpened to ensure a proper edge.

Long Track Equipment: Skater must have: long sleeves, long pants. Skates must be maintained and sharpened to ensure a proper edge. In both disciplines it is important to know the “rules of the road”. All skaters move in a counter clockwise direction, therefore it is important to be aware of this when entering the ice. If an accident happens in practice or in competition, please be aware of the new studies out by the Center for Disease Control (CDC) regarding concussion awareness.
