WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE 2013-14 SEASON?

Qualify for World Cup Team, World Sprint Team, and Olympic Team. Race in the A group at World Cups.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO SPEEDSKATING?

At the age of eight I came across a flyer for the Omaha Speedskating Club and decided to give it a try. Within a year I persuaded my parents to move me to Milwaukee for training with the goal of one day competing in the Olympic Games.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE SPEEDSKATING MOMENT?

Qualifying for and competing in my first World Sprint Championship (2013) on home ice in Salt Lake City. It was the biggest stage I had ever raced on and being able to share that atmosphere with my friends, family, and teammates was remarkable.

WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH ON THE ICE?

500m opener - getting off the line quick

WHAT IS A CHALLENGE THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME?

Compartment syndrome in both shins. I had successful surgery in 2006 that allowed me to continue training.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF SPEEDSKATING?

The moment you finish a race, after all the hours of training and the day to day commitment, it reinforces the feeling that of course there is nothing else I want to be doing.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PRE-GAME MEAL?

Any meal that feels wholesome and balanced.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHEAT FOOD?

As many flavors of macarons I can get my paws on

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?

Romp around outside, find a library, try new recipes, day dream about getting a dog

WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN THE OFF-SEASON?

Spend time in Milwaukee with pals, visit my parents, read all day, road trips with friends

WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF SPEEDSKATING?

Making big group breakfasts on rest days and watching The West Wing.

WHO IS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON IN YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

Both of my parents. They are very different people but together create a balance. They did an incredible job raising me and I am grateful to have qualities of each of them. I feel like a well-rounded person because of them. Love you, mom and pops!

WHAT IS SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT NO ONE KNOWS?

Spent the first five years of my life on a farm in Nebraska and have, on occasion, given stick and poke tattoos.
