WHAT ARE YOUR GOALS FOR THE 2013-14 SEASON?
My goals are to make the US World Cup Team, consistently medal at World Cups, medal at the World Sprint Championships, and win Olympic Gold.
HOW DID YOU GET INTO SPEEDSKATING?
After graduating from Florida Atlantic University in 2010 (and inline skating for 12 years), I moved to Salt Lake City to be apart of the WHIP program where I touched the ice for the first time in hopes of making my Olympic dream a reality.
WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE SPEEDSKATING MOMENT?
Winning my first World Cup gold medal and setting a new track record in the 1,000m in Erfurt, Germany (March 2013)
WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH ON THE ICE?
Carrying my speed out of the corners.
WHAT IS A CHALLENGE THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME?
After competing on inlines for 12 years and the sport being rejected time and time again from becoming an Olympic Sport, I had to make the transition to a completely new sport at the age of 22 to make my Olympic dream a reality.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF SPEEDSKATING?
The challenge of putting together a perfect race
WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PRE-GAME MEAL?
The night before a race I like to keep it simple and dinner usually consists of chicken, rice, and vegetables.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?
Hang out with friends, relax, and listen to music.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN THE OFF-SEASON?
I like to go back home to Florida and spend time with family and friends by the pool or at the beach.
WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF SPEEDSKATING?
From basketball to soccer, or football to ultimate frisbee; anything that can be turned into a competition, I enjoy!
WHO IS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON IN YOUR LIFE AND WHY?
My mother is the most influential person in my life because she has always been the backbone to my success. She reflects what it means to be a true Christian and has proved to me that I can do anything that I set my mind to.
WHAT IS SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT NO ONE KNOWS?
I have a stairway to heaven tattoo that goes from the top of my thigh to the top of my rib cage.
IF YOU COULD CHANGE PLACES WITH ANYONE, WHO WOULD IT BE?
No one. I'm happy with where I'm at and wouldn't trade it for the world!
DO YOU HAVE A NICKNAME?
WHAT IS YOUR CHARITY INVOLVEMENT?
Right to Play
WHAT IS A TRAINING TIP THAT YOU WOULD GIVE TO OTHERS?
As my inline skating coach always told me, practice doesn't make perfect, perfect practice makes perfect.
WHAT ARE YOUR MOTIVATIONAL TOOLS?
Wanting to be the best is my motivational tool.
I came to ice from the inline skating world where I skated my way to 32 World Championship medals (2002-2008) and 3 Pan American gold medals (2007). I played 4 years of NCAA Division I basketball at Florida Atlantic University.
