    1. Olympic Gold


    HOW DID YOU GET INTO SPEEDSKATING?

    I have speedskated as far back as I can remember. I got my start from my father who grew up speed skating in New York City and became National & North American Champion, the highest honors in the sport at the time



    WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE SPEEDSKATING MOMENT?

    Stepping up on to the Olympic podium.



    WHAT IS YOUR GREATEST STRENGTH ON THE ICE?

    Race strategy. The best part of short track is the strategy involved. That strategy creates an excitement within each race and about the sport that is second to none. It's like playing chess with skates. I love it.


    WHAT IS A CHALLENGE THAT YOU HAD TO OVERCOME?

    Not qualifying for the 2006 Olympic team. I was the fourth ranked US skater entering the trials & I finished 12th. That failure helped me get on the Olympic podium in 2010. That failure made me prepare better & not take opportunities for granted.


    WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART OF SPEEDSKATING?

    I love skating. I love the speed, the glide, and the strategy involved in short track. I love how technically demanding the sport is. You could be the strongest athlete but if you can't apply your strength to the ice you will not be the fastest.


    WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PRE-GAME MEAL?

    WOULD YOU RATHER BE THE UNDERDOG OR THE FAVORITE IN THE A COMPETITION AND WHY?

    I relish either. I love being the underdog & surprising people by performing when you're not expected too. At the same time, I love having the pressure of being the favorite. I like having the pressure to win & coming through in the clutch.


    WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE MANTRA?

    Fun comes first. This means that fun has to come first & foremost and you have to enjoy what you're doing. And at the same time if you have fun, you'll be performing at you're best & you'll finish first.


    WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CHEAT FOOD?

    Dark chocolate, Ice Cream, Red Wine, Pizza


    WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN YOUR FREE TIME?

    I love playing & watching sports along with listening to music, cooking, painting & landscaping.


    WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO IN THE OFF-SEASON?

    I love to sneak up to the mountains for some spring skiing in the morning & then back in to the valley for some golf in the afternoon.  I also love the part-time landscaping job I have.


    WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES OUTSIDE OF SPEEDSKATING?

    Skiing, Golfing, Skateboarding, Cars, Urban art, Cooking, Landscaping, Design


    WHO IS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL PERSON IN YOUR LIFE AND WHY?

    My biggest influences are other people pursuing their passions, living their dreams & athletes performing at the highest level under the most pressure.


    WHAT IS SOMETHING INTERESTING ABOUT YOURSELF THAT NO ONE KNOWS?

    I'm 6'1" but my wingspan is 6'5".

    I can fold a T-shirt in under 3 seconds. 

    I want to open a golf course

    I would love to host a show on HGTV.

    You're never too young to dream big. Be the change you want to see in the world. If you want something you've never had, you have to do something you've never done.

    Never ever, ever give up. Do more of what makes you happy. Work hard and stay humble.
